Is Ukraine following Kargil war strategy?
For the past few day, Europe is going through an unprecedented crisis in modern history. With Russia declaring war on Ukraine after the latter refused to give assurance to Russia that it will not join NATO, Russia has unleashed its power in full force.
Ukraine is very well aware that it cannot stand up to the mighty Russia. So it seems to be employing anti-conventional war strategies against Russia just like Iraq and Pakistan implemented against USA and India respectively.
Several news outlets are reporting that Ukraine is asking its citizens to take up weapons in defense of its nation. However this cannot be taken at its face value. In 1999 during Kargil war, Pakistan always maintained that India fought with Kashmiri “freedom fighters”. But it was officially proved that it was indeed Pakistani soldiers who dressed up in civilians clothes and fought with Indian army.
Pakistan claimed that Indian army killed Kashmir civilians. Later India proved to United Nations with unquestionable evidence that it was indeed Pakistan army who disguised themselves as Kashmiris.
Now there is a very good chance that Ukrainian soldiers too might dress up like civilians and fight with Russian army. Knowing they will be defeated, if they get killed in civilian clothes, Ukraine can seek sympathy from World nations.
America seems to be helping in this cause by projecting Ukrainian President as a hero. America said that even though they offered him to be evacuated, he didn’t and stayed back. Also pictures of Ukrainian President is army clothes were released. This gave tremendous sympathy to Ukrainian President and Ukraine as well.
The World is seeing Russia as a bully attacking a tiny country like Ukraine mercilessly.
Why India is not supporting Ukraine?
In 1998 when Vajpayee govt surprised the world with Nuclear test, Ukraine was the first nation to condemn and warn India against consequences. Due to countries like Ukraine, India was imposed sanctions. India needed $5 billion to cover expenses and Vajpayee had to issue SOS calls to NRIs. Indians across the world responded by remitting $6 billion. World was stunned by NRIs response to PM Vajpayee. Many countries including USA and Ukraine didn’t want India to recover but India emerged successfully, Thanks to the family system in India which enabled NRIs to send money to family in India thereby filling the Khazana of Indian govt with $6 billion within 3 weeks!
Russia was one of the old partners of India which continued to support India with defense deals even when USA didn’t support India by imposing unjustified sanctions.
India vividly remembers its friends and so has maintained a strategic stand and choose to be neutral by abstaining the UN vote against Russia
Why Russia attacked Ukraine?
Ukraine is a border country to Russia that got separated in 1991 when USSR split.
NATO countries want neighboring countries of Russia to be part of them so that they can put Russia in check. As part of NATO agreement, any country in that group should allow NATO military to be able to put up airbase in their territory. Russia obviously will not allow this as they would not want USA or other European military to be able to put up base in their backyard. After failing to convince Ukraine to be not part of NATO, Russia had no option but to take over Ukraine by military force.
Hope common man finds peace soon and common sense prevails on leaders of all countries.
