Ala Vaikuntapuram Lo — Does Trivikram dislike Ramayana?

Today I watched Ala Vaikuntapuram Lo movie after some rave reviews all over. What caught my attention is Trivikram’s reference from Ramayana epic.

Tvik is a Gold medalist from Andhra University in Nuclear Physics. And AU is ranked # 2 in India for Nuclear Physics. Not only that, he seems to have great grip on Hindu Epics, Culture and Heritage.

However I have been noticing that for some reason he tries to belittle Ramayana. In 2005 release Jai Chiranjeeva movie, he mentions about Lord Rama killing Vaali from a tree behind, which was not the case. That can be forgiven since that maybe the popular notion although I believe Tvik must have read Valmiki Ramayana which describes how that event actually happened.

Later in 2013 release Attarintiki Daredi, Tvik stoops to a new low where he makes a mockery of the Great Sage Gautam maharshi and his pativrata wife Ahalya with a very ridiculing episode.

Now in Ala Vaikuntapuram lo movie, Hero’s father has negative shades with a completely crooked character. He gave the name Valmiki to hero’s father when all other characters were given regular names. On top of it, in a serious scene, hero slaps his father by uttering his name Valmiki.

If this was done by a commercial director like Rajamouli or VV Vinayak, one can understand that they may not be knowing Ramayana. But Tvik always projects himself as someone with great knowledge on Telugu literature. So when someone like Tvik tries to belittle or ridicule Ramayana it tends to make one believe that it maybe intentional.

Few months ago there was a movie with the name Valmiki. After some backlash movie name was changed to Gaddalakonda Ganesh. The hero in that movie too had negative shades. It cannot be purely coincidental that two big Tollywood movies in a gap of 3 months tried to insult or belittle Valmiki maharshi!

Most of the time such subtle references usually go unnoticed by the larger public but they can leave a negative impression on the subconscious mind of younger generation. If you reduce the reverence for iconic figures like Valmiki, you will not be keen to pursue their literary works like Ramayana. This may not be motive of Tollywood directors but they maybe unintentionally playing it into the hands of other nefarious characters. They must use increased caution if they want to refer Hindu epics in their movies. Hindu epics and characters cannot and should not be used as per their whims and fancies! PERIOD.
