Aamir Khan and his China connection!
About 2 decades ago, it was reported that Super Star Rajni started commanding a huge following in Japan, after his Muthu movie became a hit in that country. However revenue from Japan did not exceed box office collections of India.
In recent years Aamir Khan movies are reporting huge box office numbers from China! However the China box office revenue for Aamir Khan movies seems strange and suspicious too.
His Dangal movie collected a World Wide (except China) revenue of 700 crores. However in China alone it was reported that it collected 1400 crores!! India collection was 500 crores and Overseas including USA and Europe was 200 crores for Dangal. Chinese never reported such a huge box office revenue for any Indian film before. One fails to understand how a Bollywood film collects TWICE its Worldwide revenue in China alone!
Quite contrastingly, India’s Biggest hit Bahubali collected only 80 crores in China.
Aamir Khan’s next movie “Secret Superstar” was a flop in India and collected only 90 crores. But this flop film’s China collections are reported as 900 crores, 10 times more than India!
Going by his 2 movie collections, Aamir seems to be a much bigger star in China than India itself. There must be millions of Aamir fans in China but there was no news about Chinese going gaga over Aamir films. Aamir doesn’t even promote his movies in China like he does in India and Overseas.
After Modi government took over, they blocked Hawala channels from middle east countries. There were rumors that some may have diverted their transactions to China. Before the release of Dangal Aamir publicly expressed displeasure on Modi government’s “Intolerance”.
It remains to be seem if BJP Government would want to look further into Bollywood box office collections from China, especially after recent fall out over border issues between the two countries.
